Hospital Bed Dimensions
Standard size Hospital Beds have a sleep surface of 36″W x 80″L. Hospital Bed overall measurements are 38″W x 84″L. (outside of headboard to footboard.)
Most hospital beds are 80″ in length. Optional XL 84-inch (extension kit exists for some of the popular beds, can be extended another 4″. (36″W x 84″L sleep surface.)
If you need more space you’ll have to see the Home Care Electric Adjustable Beds that are available in standard sizing: Full (54″ x 80″), Queen (60″ x 80″), or King (76″ x 80″).
The following items apply to electric and manual hospital beds.
Hand wash bed surfaces with a soft, moistened cloth. Avoid using harsh cleaners or soaps, only warm water and a mild detergent.
Wipe and dry the bed, ensuring that all extraneous detergent is removed to prevent buildup.
Understand and implement local policies regarding mattress cleaning.
Examine mattress cover surface for damage or stains. If either exists, contact infection control nurses. General cleaning procedure will not rectify serious soiling or micro-organism infections. The mattress may be permanently removed from use.
Check actuator screws, clevis pins hooking actuator tubes, Hi-Lo connecting tubes, and spring hooks – and apply grease.
Every twoyears, check rail shafts, nylon washers, and Hi-Lo mechanisms, and apply grease.
Inspect for excessive wear of oil-impregnated bronze shoulder spacers. These components can be found in the linkage of mattress support section and the Hi-Lo lever mechanism. If worn, replace the shoulder spacers.
Inspect and tighten (if applicable) all bolts, locknuts, and screws.
Ensure that side rails move and latch properly.
Ensure that foot support arm is entirely undamaged and works properly.
Ensure that head and foot boards are undamaged.
Check head end bumpers for security and damage.
Ensure the mattress cover is free from rips or cracks.
Check all casters for proper usage.
Check caster locking mechanism and tires for wear.
Ensure that the emergency hand crank works properly (if applicable).
The following items apply solely to electric beds.
Check Hi-Lo and lockout control switches for proper functioning.
Check that bed lowering using Hi-Lo switch works properly.
Ensure pendant control functions are working.
Ensure power cord is intact.
Look for wear or pinching in all cables.
Check electrical connections for security.
Ensure the ground is entirely secure to the frame.
Measure bed current leakage.
Measure ground impedance.
